To be honest, I find that they're direct, blunt, and informative and I genuinely like and appreciate that for any work regarding vehicles. Regardless of the price they're direct about why or the work, they're informative and give you the option of course to continue with them after their suggestions or hey, shop around for reviews but legitimately they'll be so direct which is 10/10 what makes these types of autoshops the better ones regardless of the work they're doing for you 👍
My usual mechanic was booked up so he recommended Schwabe’s. My problem was an easy fix so they did it for free, and got me in a day earlier than they thought originally. Almost any other place would charge me the minimum hour. I gave them five $5 Tim’s cards as thanks for saving me a lot more than that. I would use them again for sure.
Would give less than one if I could. Went in for brakes squealing. They looked at it and adjusted something but said brakes are fine. $100 for Ubers and to check this. Still squealed. Back again. Totally condescending g “brakes squeal”, ” sounds fine to me”, “it is normal for brakes to make noise and what was adjusted could have gone back”, “it is a new noise”. Waste of time and money. If you are female, avoid this or be mansplained.
This has been our go to shop for 8 years, but we will be looking for a new one. Had a pair of shocks and mounts replaced in 2024 and then had a warranty issue with one shock when I was 3 hours from Edmonton. My vehicle could not be driven back to Edmonton as the shock had broken and was rubbing on my tire. Had both the local shop and Schwabes speak to us and it was agreed that the small town mechanic would replace the shock and Schwabes would cut us a cheque for the warranty work done by the small town shop. All we had to do was provide a receipt. When I spoke to Schwabes originally they stated it would be easier to fix the vehicle at their shop, so I suggested they bring the vehicle back to Edmonton on a truck and fix it, but this was not well received. It was very apparent they did not want to tow my vehicle back to Edmonton as it would probably cost them more. And my vehicle was not drivable. So instead we agreed that the small town shop, would order the same part, fix it and we would be reimbursed for the cost. At no time were we ever told that our warranty would be void on that shock. Went in to Schwabes to get the refund for the small town repair (warranty work) and instead of cutting us a cheque for the repair, they refunded us for the total amount of the original replacement of the shock and we now no longer have warranty for this shock....that if this shock now fails we would need to go back to the small town shop. Now we have 2 separate warranties - Schwabes covers the pair of mounts and the right rear shock, but the small town that is 3hrs away covers the left rear shock. Had we known this was going to happen, we would insisted they tow the vehicle back at their cost to fix in their shop. We have been recommending this shop to family and friends previously, but will not be doing so going forward. It seems they do not care about their customers like they used to.
This was my 'go-to' garage for several years. However, it would appear to me that service here has gone downhill. I had an appointment just before Christmas for an oil change and to check out a noise that I thought was a wheel bearing issue. They did the oil change but said that I didn't have a bearing problem, instead referring me to a Transmission/ Differential Repair Shop. I was warned that the problem could be in the $1000's. That referred shop took my car for a quick drive and told me that it was indeed a wheel bearing, so I went back to Schwabe's with those results. I had to wait until after Christmas for an appointment, thus forcing me to have to rent a car over Christmas (cost was $200) to go and see my family. In the end, I was absolutely right about the bearing. And it was the SAME bearing that Schwabe's changed in April 2023. There was only 20k km driven since the original repair. I don't know if they were trying to get out of the warranty work or exactly what, but I do know that I am not in a hurry to go back there. As well, I can no longer recommend them to family and friends.
