I’ve been here multiple times now and always stock up when I visit. Every visit has been a great experience. The staff are consistently friendly, helpful, and welcoming. They carry multiple brands of Caribbean staples that are rarely stocked at mainstream grocery stores. I originally came specifically for Betapac curry powder which is almost impossible to find anywhere else in this city. I was also surprised to find that they carry the large bottles of Matouk’s scotch bonnet hot sauce, along with other Matouk’s flavours in regular sizes. They also have a butcher section, with oxtail and other cuts that are hard to find. Highly recommend if you cook Caribbean food or are looking for specialty ingredients you just can’t find at regular grocery stores!
I like coming to this store whenever I know I’m in Edmonton. This new wanna be butcher sees me picking my mackerel up heading out. Says something along the lines of I need to wait , I said wait for what ? So another customer has to explain that they have changed the way how they price things now and he need to put a price on the mackerel. Not only did you try to give me attitude for asking a question, he didn’t even know the code to put the price tag on. Everyone at this location is a gem but that one black dude with the durag is a bad apple. He needs to know how to deal with customers and properly explain the new policies.
Tropical foods stuff, pop, beverages, and other groceries from Africa. I believe they also have a few stuff from the carabean. Lots of exclusive items like vegetables, palm oil, garri, pounded yam, yams, sea food, animal protein, etc are available at this location. They always seen to have stock as I always find what I want. It may take some looking, or asking as the item may be in another name other than what you know it by. A parking lot is available next to the building. The store has narrow shopping aisles and may not be to the taste of people who are not use to aromas of African cooking ingredients. Items are little expensive but are worth every cent as most of there items are not stocked by other stores. The store could be an easy five star with a little upgrade of the ambiance.
If you need African food this is the place for you. There is nothing missing here. From sweet potato to salted barracuda. Fresh and frozen meat is available. The store is well lit and clean. The prices are reasonable and there is ample parking. There is a part of the store with bulk flour and beans available. I enjoyed looking at the great variety of food items here.
Terrible customer service and poor quality. I bought a tuber of yam here, and when I went to cook it two days later, it was completely rotten and covered in mold. I had to throw the entire thing away. When I returned to the store with my receipt and photos, the owner was incredibly rude. Instead of offering a refund, she blamed me, suggesting I didn't know how to store it or had left it in my car. She showed zero concern for the quality of her product. I would give zero stars if I could. Very unprofessional—avoid this shop.
