If I had to produce a short list of what I consider all time iconic Edmonton restaurants the Highlevel Diner would be on it. It never disappoints. Today we stopped in for breakfast however for lunch and especially dinner the Veggie Burger with Tabouli Salad brings back memories from many years ago. The corner table we sat at today brings back memories from cozy winter nights in the mid 1990's spent at the High Level Diner. Photos from late March 2026
Food was a solid 6 out of 10. The waitress was a delight and made me almost tear up when she brought me REAL ketchup. You guys should leave ketchup making to HEINZ and focus on improving the menu and quality. Food was bland.
(August 8th and 9th, 2025) Highly praised for their cinnamon buns by my conference website, I went here to get just that. Day 1 (evening): I realized that they run out of the buns early in the day due to high demand and that I should have called ahead and checked. So, for then, I settled for a Beetroot Dill Soup. Watery and flavourful. There was a patch of cream on top, it was sour. It enhanced the taste of the soup when mixed. I initially got the small one, and then it was so good that I again got a large one. ------- Day 2 (fore-noon) I came again the next day, this time calling and confirming upfront. The Cinnamon Bun. It was soft inside, and cinnamon-sugary and crisp on the outside. The bottom of the bun felt well-roasted. We got a half and half of the cream cheese and caramel accompaniments. (a) Cream cheese was salted and sweet. (b) Bourbon caramel sauce was also good, we poured it on the bun. And that was very sufficient for the two buns for the two of us. I was so impressed with it that I got two more buns with both accompaniments to-go over our air travel to share it with a friend we were going to visit in Kitchener/Toronto the next day. Typical diner interiors and experience, and nominally priced food.
First time coming here. My wife had the spinach pie with fries and I had steak with fries and a Cesar salad. Both were amazing! And priced very reasonable! The service was great aswell! Will definitely be back again!
It’s a lovely local diner with a beautiful interior and delicious food. We were able to order from the brunch menu even though it was already lunchtime.
