4 stars overall because food is just okay. If you’re going to avail their happy hour prices then definitely it’s going to be a 5, but since we’ve paid the actual price then I’m just rating it 4. I ordered Black Ramen which was priced at $10. Still cheap compared to others. The smell was so good, the noodles were soggy, there was no depth to the flavor of the soup, and there was only one pork. For the Kushiyaki, I ordered a stick of the Shiitake Mushroom priced at $2.60. The sauce was too flavorful and salty. Lastly, I ordered Shrimp Tempura priced at $12.50. It was fine and definitely not the best. The batter was good, though. The service was good. The atmosphere was chill and nice.
Fantastic casual ramen spot that fills up fast at lunch. The $5 ramen before 4pm is an excellent deal, and the ramen was flavorful, chewy, and served piping hot. The pressed sushi was tasty, the salad was fresh and vibrant, and the skewers were great. The black cod was the only miss, but everything else was fantastic. Great food, friendly efficient service, and an easy spot to recommend. Place fills up fast for lunch even on weekdays so show up early or go for a late lunch (e.g 2pm)
Delicious authentic Izakaya fare. Fresh made from scratch, excellent presentation, flavors that compliment but not over power food. All around well executed. Add to that a very friendly and attentive wait staff and makes for a great experience, not just a meal. A+
Real unfiltered honest review. Food was way overly salty and not to standard aside from sushi. This place is getting way too much praise here. - Ramen Black ( overpoweringly salty and just mediocre) for $5.00 it’s whatever but let’s not pretend it’s even close to amazing. - skewers ( chicken wing, chicken heart, pork belly and chicken skin) All equally terrible and Burnt/Dry. The heart and wings were so dry it was like cardboard. The chicken skin was the most flavorless thing I’ve ever tasted, pork meat was fine but the sauce is again way too salty. - Sushi was overall acceptable. - Our waiter disappeared for around 15 minutes after we had been done eating for some time prior to that (just trying to get the bill and leave). Water never filled once either. - Tables are super sticky, it might be from the surface coating but it’s not a good look or feel when your items literally have stick when moving or pulling them around. - Ac also hardly works, very humid and hot.
This is very disappointing. My partner and I discovered Tanzen by chance by exploring restaurants through Door Dash. In the beginning we were trying everything to figure what we liked best. We ended up loving the pork and chicken skin skewers, mushrooms and various sushi rolls. But over time we started to notice slowly the pork belly got more fatty the more we ordered them. The pork belly skewers do come with a red spicy sauce, so if you ask for no sauce you discover how much fat they are disguising as pork belly. If tonight you order 8 pork belly skewers, you will find at least 6 of the skewers will be all fat and 2 will be real pork belly meat. I literally have been sick because I was fooled due to the sauce covering up the skewers of fat. I have added pictures, so you can see what they are passing off as pork belly. I"m pretty sure they got popular because of the grilling food format. But now they are taking advantage of the loyal customers like me and you by serving up pounds of fat in every order. Don't let them get away with trying to make money on us by servicing us grilled fat chunks instead of proper pork belly. I'm never eating their grilled fat crap again. They should apologize for ripping us off.
