Great service! I love that the food menu changes frequently. The music here is always on point. They do a lot of community activism too! There is seating but if you have a big ass dont expect to be comfortable.
I work from a vehicle all day and am often in the neighbourhood so I stop by for sandwiches, usually a couple of times a week. I used to only get their baked goods once every couple of months because their oatmeal cookies and chocolate orange scones are amazing but now that I'm pregnant I need to eat a little more often and don't always have time to pack a lunch, and they don't usually use deli meat (and even if they do it's heated up enough that it's safe in pregnancy) so I can enjoy most of their food. Every time I go in the staff put a smile on my face. They're always friendly and they know me by name. I love that there's variety as they change up their menu continually and it's never been disappointing. I've never had a sandwich I didn't enjoy. I also appreciate the humour they use when naming their sandwiches (a la Bob's Burgers). I like that they're local and support other local businesses. I just wanted to give a shutout to these guys because they're doing great. PS the pulled pork sandwich they have on right now is INCREDIBLE.
The most delicious sandwich I had in Edmonton so far. I got this one of pulled pork BBQ. The textures were so great combined, and I loved the fresh bread. The staff was nice, polite and helpful, they did a good job on the service, and made a nice sandwich. I will go back to try other flavors for sure.
This place has coffee and other refreshments but what I want to talk about is the sandwiches. Every day they pull out a fleet of 2 breakfast and 3 lunch sandwiches, all of them delicious. The offerings always included a vegetarian selection for those going meatless. The sandwiches differ from day to day but the quality is consistent. The only con I have ever had with this place is they make a sandwich so good your sad to see it go the next day. The catering is also top quality!
I don't know where Tidings Mpofu had coffee, but it definitely was not Elm. The most pretentious thing about Elm is the occasional snooty customer. I have never seen the staff be anything but friendly and courteous to every customer regardless of if they have a complicated coffee order, or want to know the difference between a latte and a cappuccino. Their brewed coffee is top-notch, [even by my snobby standards] and their lattes are so good your eyes will roll back in your head. Their delicious muffins are baked fresh in the cafe every day, and if you're lucky you might find a batch of fresh cookies as well. The sandwiches... oh such sandwiches. There's always 2 early breakfast sandwiches, and 2 to 4 lunch sandwiches. [after 11] These all have the same effect as the lattes. Fresh baked bread, fresh ingredients, and amazing flavor. Their chefs in the catering kitchen upstairs absolutely know how to pair their ingredients for something amazing. Elm has been my absolute favorite place since it opened, and there's rarely been a morning where I haven't stopped by for coffee and a muffin, or a latte and a sandwich. It actually pains me to move out of the province and not be able to go to Elm, but the absolute last thing I will do before I leave is to stop at Elm and load up on coffee, sandwiches, and muffins for the trip. Do yourself a favor and give them a try, I guarantee you won't regret it.
