As someone who has worked in retail for over a decade and values local businesses, it takes a LOT for me to rate a place with only one star. All the details are in the screenshots, but TLDR: the Code’s owners/management have left me on read on numerous occasions for multiple weeks at a time over the exact same issue I’ve been trying to fix since January, all the while still charging me for a VIP membership I’ve barely been able to use. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS PLACE, THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOU OR STOP CHARGING YOU IF YOU TRY TO LEAVE.
I had a very disappointing experience with this dance studio. I booked and paid for a class through their website, but it was cancelled just one day before without any explanation. What’s even more frustrating is that I still haven’t received a refund. It’s been a month, and they have not responded to my calls or messages at all. This level of communication and customer service is unacceptable. I would not recommend this studio based on my experience.
This is one of the most talked about and visited dance studios in Edmonton. With a wide range of drop-in classes, a plethora of dance styles, and a vibe that oozes inclusiveness, it's easy to understand why. We tried the Burlesque Boom class which is basically a bootcamp style cardio class with elements of sexy burlesque woven in, and we also snuck in a lil' sample of the Beginner Heels class which is exactly what it sounds like - a dance class in heels - nuff said. Both were super fun, challenging and we worked up a serious sweat, although we would have loved to see a bit more Burlesque in the BB class. We docked half a star for location and for the limited pricing options but loved everything else and we'd definitely come back for more!
The classes are amazing, and the teachers are incredible. I can't stress enough how great they are. But the studio itself is VERY poorly managed/organized. You can never get a call back or a message back on Instagram when you have questions. If you cancel your membership online and want to re-register again later on, you have to pay the $30 registration free EVERY time! They say they offer a "pause" option for $15 a month instead of cancelling but you can never get a clear answer on how to do that. It's so frustrating.
I booked my first heels class for January 14th at 6:00 pm. A couple of hours before the class, I received a text notifying me that it had been moved to 8:00 pm. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend at the new time, especially given the very short notice. I reached out right away and, after some back-and-forth, was told I would receive a refund. It has now been four days, and I still haven’t received it. I’ve followed up twice since then and haven’t gotten a response. Extremely unprofessional behaviour. Poor communication, no accountability, and taking money without following through on a promised refund is unacceptable. I would not recommend this business. -Natalie
