Barb & Ernie's Old Country Inn

Our breakfast club decided to try someplace different from our usual. I haven't been to Barb & Ernie's in about 25 years and another member last visited about 35 years ago. The decor has not changed at all. The food while tasty was average. A couple of sausage and eggs breakfast were ordered and a bratwurst eggs Benedict, and a potato pancake. The sausages were exceptional, plump and perfectly cooked. We agreed that the hash browns portion was a little small. They charge extra for so called premium toast like sourdough or rye where other places don't. This was a bit disappointing. The potato pancake was very good. Service was attentive and prompt. So the overall experience was excellent service and decent food but not exceptional.

The pancakes were made properly: they were not dense. They were light, thick and airy, but the serving is massive, it was the size of a large dinner plate. Easily these could feed three people. The sausages were tasty and surprisingly not dried out even though they looked it. The sausages were delicious. The eggs were standard. A great breakfast overall. Glad to support a local mom and pop. However, I am concerned about the "butter". I eat a lot of butter and the kind they used here behaved like an oily margarine. I asked the server and he said they use real butter but it just didn't look like butter or tasted like it really. Crazy value for the quality and money too. I will come back.

Stopped by on a weeknight after work and they had no problem with my dog joining me on the patio, which I really appreciated. The waitress even brought out a water bowl without me asking, small thing but it made the whole visit feel easygoing. Split an order of the schnitzel and it was crispy and huge, way more than I expected for the price. Parking right out front made it super easy to hop in and out with the leash and everything, will definitely be back.

Has all the warm vibes of a 50 year old eatery. Service was quick and efficient. Orders came quickly. The food was tasty but not extraordinary or out of the world. Overall all good experience. Would visit again !

Cozy place with a welcoming, homey atmosphere. The service was a bit slow, but the food was delicious and the portions were generous. Overall, a nice place to enjoy a good meal.
