My wife and I and my oldest daughter (8 years old) are into our 6th month of Jujitsu and the Woman’s Warriors program (wife) and the family is loving it. The gym has a great community of very kind and helping people and is very clean and definitely a safe feeling for the whole family. We are definitely hooked and enjoying being more active and living a healthier lifestyle 😀

My daughter loves this gym. The coaches are amazing they focus on creating the right atmosphere and coaching so that every child learns Jui jitsu the right way. I love that they do two word check ins so that way kids leave with the right emotional mindset. They don’t leave feeling defeated or let down, they leave with confidence and growth. Can’t say enough about how it helps my daughter.

I first started coming to this gym years ago when I retired from roller derby, but still wanted to do something challenging. I was welcomed in warmly and felt comfortable immediately. Unfortunately, the timing wasn’t right for me, so I left after a few months. Fast forward to 2023, I wanted my grandson (who lives with me) to do something that would improve his coordination, provide an athletic outlet, and allow him to socialize outside of daycare. I immediately thought of SBG. I remembered their kindness and the positive vibes. Plus they are conveniently located and close to my home. I signed my grandson up and then signed myself up for the Warrior Women fitness class. His classes and mine run on the same days of the week which is super convenient. Last year they ran a self defence course which I joined and enjoyed immensely. This year they started a women’s Jiu Jitsu class, so I joined that too, and I am happy I did. The coaches are patient and supportive. They work with you and any limitations your body may be experiencing, as they are passionate about Jiu Jitsu and truly belief that it can be accessible to virtually anyone with the right coaching and encouragement. I live with some significant knee issues which limit my participation, and they are happy to share various modifications to allow me to still participate. I am incredibly grateful for this. Aside from the high level of skill and knowledge that they impart to participants, they provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all. They run an in-house tournament (the Gorilla Cup), which helps participants feel confident applying all of the skills they practice in class. It is an excellent first step for those who may feel unsure about competing. My grandson was one of those kids. He wasn’t sure if he should enter the Gorilla Cup, but he eventually decided to give it a try. He loved it and is looking forward to the next one. Perhaps one day he will decide he wants to do other tournaments as well. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that they also teach life skills to the kids. Things like conflict management, emotional regulation, positive group and partner behaviours. I am constantly impressed by this as it makes it more than just an activity, it elevates it to something very special. Something hard to find in other activities. SBG is truly more than just your typical gym. The coaches also model these positive behaviours, which reinforces the expectations set upon the kids. I have seen my grandson grow in his confidence, coordination, and socialization and I have grown my fitness level significantly. I could go on, but this review is already long enough, so if you want the kids in your life (or yourself) to be challenged in a wonderful environment, I encourage you to take a chance on this place. You won’t regret it. I sure didn’t.

I visited SBG Edmonton while I was on a work trip and had an amazing experience. The coaches were knowledgeable, patient and the vibe at the gym is so welcoming and friendly. Safety is a priority for everyone and they have classes for all ages. Coach Steve and Coach Katy, thanks again for a great experience!

My son has severe anxiety I was spending crazy amounts of money to slowly improve his mental health. After a couple months in jujitsu he no longer needed therapy. He is a happy healthy proud member of SBG and our family greatly appreciates the hardworking coaches. We love being part of the tribe!
