Halfway Diner has such a cool atmosphere! I really liked the old-school, retro vibe with all the vintage relics, signs, posters, and décor throughout the restaurant. It gives the place a lot of character and makes it stand out from your typical diner. I ordered my food to go, and it was still really good — I’d give the food around a 4 to 4.5/5. Everything tasted good and I enjoyed my meal. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, so the service was an easy 5/5. Food: 4–4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Overall, really enjoyed Halfway Diner. Great vibe, friendly people, and good food. Definitely will be back!
We started with a piece of their seasonal special black forest pie. Absolutely next level. As we were there for a meal we waited to finish and ordered a breakfast and lunch item. Club house on sourdough with a cup of homemade, amazing, loaded potatoe soup and the apple and cinnamon stuffed french toast. The club sandwich had fresh tomatoe, crisp bacon, mixed greens, and real white breast turkey. The processed yellow cheese fell short of being exceptional. The stuffed french toast was really 2 pieces stacked, lacked apple and the cinnamon didnt make it to the plate. The service made up for it all and pulled the experience from a 3 star to a 4 star. The pie slices and variety are worth every penny though and for us, worth fighting thevtraffic and driving 37 minutes. We will be back.
This place almost always hits for breakfast. I love the decorations, the staff are kind, and they have a great menu. Today we got the feature brisket benny and the feature cherry cheesecake stuffed french toast. Tbh the feature benny was a little disappointing. The brisket wasnt seasoned well and there really wasnt much of it. They also put mayo on the benny which wasnt a great hit with us. The french toast itself was really amazing, the berry compote is definitely necessary though for a bit of tartness. I didnt really taste the cheesecake but it was still good. One thing i’ve noticed, and I dont know if this applies to everything, when it comes to cream fillings (such as in the pies and french toast) or whipped cream, it kind of tastes like cool whip with flavouring. My only other criticisms would be that the taller tables (in the front and back corner) are kind of hard to sit in. The seat is way too far from the table so I have to sit at the edge which is uncomfortable. Also the juice is $5 for like a childs size cup. All in all, the restaurant delivers a pretty good experience but with all these minor food details, i do kind of feel like im being ripped off a little, especially since the prices arent cheap here and they are consistently busy (or so it seems). If the diner could address these complaints then i would say it was 100% perfect.
First time going to Hathaway’s Diner and it won’t be our last. We walked in for lunch and were greeted and seated right away. Makenna was our server and she was excellent! Attentive from start to finish of the meal. She made some great recommendations, to make our first visit truly memorable. We topped it off with a slice of coconut cream pie and the pistachio pineapple pie. The pistachio pineapple was so good we ended up taking a whole pie home with us. If you haven’t been to Hathaway’s Diner yet, you truly need to go, you won’t regret it.
Absolutely loved it. Excellent place for breakfast, prices were fair for the portion sizes, and the staff were great. Visiting from out of town and will recommend to anyone visiting Edmonton. My only regret is I was too full to have pie (so instead we got four slices and took them home with us). Highly recommend.
