Sunning Family Restaurant 新宁 (Dim Sum & Chinese Food)

Everything was delicious. Definitely some of the best we’ve had since coming to Alberta. Black pepper beef chow mein and lemon chicken were crispy and had great flavour. The wonton soup was delicious. The BBQ fried rice was amazing, and the spring rolls were some of the best I’ve ever had. I’ll be honest and say I was surprised by the deep fried and battered egg roll, and it wasn’t my favourite. Honestly though? It didn’t even factor into this review because of how amazing the rest of the food was.

I was craving Chinese food for a little while. Me and my bf were in the city and stumbled across this place while searching somewhere to eat for dinner. We trusted the good reviews and decided to try it out. We got the two person dinner and selected lemon chicken and beef chowmein for our two additional sides. Everything was fresh and full of flavour. However the beef chowmein lacked something in taste and isn’t what I expected. It had a sauce similar to beef and broccoli. One minor thing when dining in—is that the waitresses are a bit slow. We got seated and waited maybe 10-12mins to place our order. Food came around the 20 min mark after the waitress took our order. Overall though, a great place for Chinese food. We’ll be back again soon to try more.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for months after hearing rave reviews. We ordered a bunch of food. The portions are huge and the food is extremely fresh. The chicken balls in particular were some of the best I’ve ever had and the ho fan was divine. My one complaint is the meat was extremely chewy and poor quality - the szechuan beef was so fatty and chewy it was barely edible and everyone who ate it struggled to chew through it. For 20$ I expected so much more. Other than that, it’s a really decent Western-style Chinese restaurant.

I had to order take out from here after being recommended it when looking for a place with a customizable two person dinner. I was almost deterred by the reviews so I have decided to write one of my own. 1. The food was still hot even after taking 45 minutes to get here with a courier (uber) 2. The flavour is amazing!! Nothing is too salty or bland. It’s perfect. 3. Portions are normal! Not heaping but not cheap! 4. I can’t speak on customer service as I ordered but they did an amazing job packing and sealing all the containers so there were no leaks.

Delicious food and massive portions! Our server was lovely. We ordered the dinner for 3, thinking we would have leftovers for tomorrow. Turns out we will have leftovers for days! Very good value for money. The dinner for 3 came with spring rolls and chicken fried rice and 3 entrees. We ordered the sezchuan beef, deep fried shrimp and chicken balls. This may be the best sezchuan beef (ginger beef) we've both had. It was extra crispy and covered in a lightly spicy and tangy sauce. The deep fried shrimp were amazing. The order came with 12 shrimp which was much more than expected. You can tell they take pride in their food. The oil they used was fresh and everything was made to order and delicious!
