Edmonton institution since 2009 and ranked top 3 on TripAdvisor. French-style macarons, brownie croissants, and European pastries that draw lineups every weekend. Worth the wait.
We were visiting Edmonton and were looking for the best place to try macarons. Based on chatgoodle reviews, Duchesse Cafe was one of the top recommendations. The café itself is absolutely beautiful. The interior is stunning, and we really loved the atmosphere. We came close to closing time, so most of the pastry display was already half empty. However, the macaron display was still more than half full, so we felt confident buying a selection. Unfortunately, our expectations weren’t met. Out of the 12 macarons we purchased, only one tasted truly fresh. It even made us wonder if some of them had been from the previous day. The fresh macaron had a texture that reminded us more of a cookie than a traditional French macaron. Would we come back specifically for the macarons? Probably not. We don’t want to lower the overall rating because the interior and atmosphere are genuinely outstanding, so we’re leaving 4 stars. But if we were rating the macarons alone, we’d probably give them 2 stars. We were just a little disappointed because our expectations were much higher for such price.
Dutchess Bake Shop is such a wonderful experience from the moment you walk through the door. I recently visited with my brother and sister, and our plan was simple: order a variety of pastries and desserts so we could all share and sample as much as possible. It was the perfect way to experience everything they have to offer. Of course, no visit is complete without macarons! We tried the Pistachio and Salted Caramel, and while the Pistachio was my personal favourite, my sister absolutely loved the Salted Caramel. You have to try one, maybe tree! (No judgement here) The cakes and desserts were truly incredible. The Key Lime Pie tasted like summer in every bite… fresh, bright, and so delicious that you immediately wanted another slice. The Lemon Meringue was pure comfort and nostalgia. It had the perfect balance of tart lemon, sweet meringue, and buttery pastry. It was one of those desserts that makes you close your eyes for a moment just to enjoy it. For the chocolate lovers, the chocolate cake is a must. Rich, indulgent, decadent, and deeply flavourful, it’s everything you’d hope for in a chocolate dessert. Pair it with a fresh coffee or a beautiful latte, and you’ve got the perfect treat. Beyond the food, the bakery itself is gorgeous. The décor is elegant, charming, and inviting with a touch of old-world sophistication. Whether you’re catching up with siblings after lunch, meeting friends after dinner, or simply satisfying a sweet tooth, Dutchess Bakery is a place worth visiting. Everything we tried was exceptional, and we left already talking about what we’d order on our next visit. Highly recommended! ❤️✨
From the moment you walk in, everything feels thoughtful and elevated. The pastries are absolute perfection, flaky, buttery, and beautifully balanced. The croissant was unreal, the pistachio raspberry financier was light and flavourful, and the oatmeal milk chocolate cookie hit that perfect chewy-crisp sweet spot. Coffee was excellent too, smooth, rich, and finished with lovely latte art. You can tell a lot of care goes into every detail, from the baking to the presentation to the service. Easily one of the best bakeries in Edmonton and always worth the visit. Highly recommend if you appreciate high-quality baking done right.
Hands down one of the best bake shops in Edmonton! You got to try there macarons & oh my gosh their variety of small cakes, just try everything honestly. Such a good variety of yummy selections!!! I got served by such a sweetheart of a person, Jasmine - a kind smile, wonderful positive energy and just such genuine customer service. We need more humans like her in the world! Highly recommend this absolutely amazing establishment! Don’t get distracted, cause I did lol
Beautiful decor, everything is delicate and crispy. The eclair was flaky and crispy, while filled with cream, but not overwhelmingly salty. It was perfection itself
