When is Candy Cane Lane open in 2026?
Candy Cane Lane runs from Friday, December 11, 2026 to Saturday, January 2, 2027, every night from dusk to 11 PM. It covers 148 Street from 92 Avenue to 99 Avenue in Crestwood, and residents have been decorating their homes for it since 1968.
Cost: Free. Bring a non perishable food donation for Edmonton's Food Bank. There are green bins all along the street.
Walk it if you can. The lane is closed to cars on its open streets nights, December 12 and December 23, so you can walk, bike, sled or ski. On other nights you can drive it, but traffic gets slow and parking in the neighbourhood is tight. The organizers suggest coming in from 142 Street rather than 149 Street on busy nights. Dogs are welcome on a leash.
Sleigh rides: Tickets go on sale Saturday, November 7 at noon and tend to sell out. Rides cost $27.50 a person plus fees ($30.06 total), and babies under 24 months on a lap ride free. Ride nights are December 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 27, from 6 to 9 PM, leaving from Isabelle Connelly Park at 148 Street and 99 Avenue. A ride takes about 45 to 60 minutes. Rides are cancelled if the forecast is colder than minus 23, or the wind chill is colder than minus 30.
When does Zoominescence start at the Valley Zoo?
Zoominescence turns the Edmonton Valley Zoo (13315 Buena Vista Road) into a trail of light art made by local artists. The Valley Zoo Development Society runs it to raise money for the zoo.
Posted nights (no year shown yet): November 27 to 29, December 4 to 6, 11 to 13, 18 to 23 and 26 to 31, then January 1 to 3. The society's events page says December 2026, so check before you go.
Hours: 5 to 10 PM, last entry at 9 PM.
Good to know: Ticket prices were not posted yet when we checked, so look at the event page before you go. The society calls it a unique way to see the zoo at night. It sits in the river valley, so dress for colder air than downtown.
What is the Muttart Conservatory's Christmas display this year?
The feature pyramid at the Muttart Conservatory becomes Classic Christmas from November 21, 2026 to January 3, 2027. The City of Edmonton describes trees, lights, poinsettias, a wooden train and a Santa's chair for photos. It is the best pick on this list for a very cold night, since it is all indoors.
Hours: 10 AM to 5 PM most days, and until 9 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Wednesday evenings from 5 to 9 PM are adults only, so take kids on Thursday night or during the day. The Muttart is closed on Christmas Day.
Cost: Regular admission covers the feature pyramid. The city lists $14.95 for adults, $12.95 for youth and seniors, $7.75 for kids 2 to 12, and free for kids under 2. The closest LRT stop is Muttart on the Valley Line.
When do the Alberta Legislature Christmas lights turn on?
The Legislative Assembly holds its Light Up on Tuesday, December 1, 2026, from 6 to 8 PM, when the grounds are lit for the season. After that, Celebrate the Season runs from December 4 to 19, 2026 with music in the Legislature Building rotunda. The 2026 performance schedule was not posted yet when we checked.
The grounds are an easy walk on a clear night. Pair it with a stop at a nearby coffee shop to warm up.
Is Leduc Country Lights open in 2026, and what does it cost?
Leduc Country Lights is a walk through light display in the countryside near Leduc, south of Edmonton. It is run by volunteers with the Leduc Kinsmen, in partnership with the Leduc West Antique Society. Our listing shows a 4.8 rating from 730 Google reviews.
2026 dates: Not posted yet when we checked. Last season ran November 29 to December 31, 5 to 9 PM Sunday to Thursday and 5 to 10 PM Friday and Saturday, closing at 8 PM on December 24 and 31 and closed on Christmas Day. Check leduccountrylights.ca before you drive out.

Good to know: A food bank donation is not required, but the organizers strongly encourage one. Reviewers on our listing mention fire pits for warming up and say the walk takes 30 to 60 minutes. It is outside the city, so it will feel colder and windier than your street.
Where can you skate under lights in Edmonton?
The Victoria IceWay winds through the trees in the river valley at 12030 River Valley Road and is lit for evening skating. Our listing shows it open 10 AM to 10 PM, but outdoor ice depends on the weather, so check the city's skating page first. For more rinks and trails across the city, see our full list of skating in Edmonton.
Which Christmas lights in Edmonton are free?
Candy Cane Lane is free, with a food bank donation encouraged. The Legislature's Light Up and Celebrate the Season are free. Leduc Country Lights costs just $3 a person. The Muttart charges regular admission, and Zoominescence ticket prices were not posted yet when we checked.
How do you plan a Christmas lights night in Edmonton?
- Pick a quieter night. Candy Cane Lane is open every night, so a Monday to Thursday visit beats the weekend crowds. Zoominescence is mostly a weekend event, so arrive soon after 5 PM or go on a weeknight such as December 21 to 23 or 28 to 31, if the posted nights hold.
- Dress for standing still. Walking slowly in the dark at minus 15 feels much colder than a quick walk to the car. Warm boots, a hat and mitts make the night.
- Bring cash and a food donation. Leduc Country Lights takes cash at the gate, and both Candy Cane Lane and Leduc collect for the food bank.
- Check the link the day of. Cold weather closures and schedule changes get posted on the organizers' own pages first.
