They have added and refined this exhibit alot over the last year or so. I recommend to anyone who was ever interested in Native/ Métis history and culture. Everything about the place was excellent. Very polite staff, very clean environment. I was impressed with the ammount of artifacts on display. I learn something new every time I come here. Couple that with the Fort Edmonton Park experience.... it's great.
The Indigenous Peoples Experience at Fort Edmonton Park is absolutely wondrous. The space is thoughtfully designed and well curated, offering a rich and authentic representation of Indigenous voices, stories, and traditions. The blending of immersive exhibits, oral histories, and multimedia creates a powerful experience that is both educational and deeply moving. This is not just a museum exhibit, it’s a journey of understanding and connection. A must visit for anyone who values culture, history, and truth told in a respectful and engaging way. It’s a long walk to the far end of the park .. however you can catch a train from one end to the other. This was a meaningful experience. Look for signs, it can be hard to find if you don’t know where to go. If you have time to tour the entire Fort plan for a few hours at least .. lots of walking so wear comfortable shoes.
This was a fantastic exhibit! Enjoyed viewing the artifacts and learning about Indigenous life and beliefs. It was made special with the sound effects, lighting, and music, which completed the immersive experience. I was also impressed by the fact that this was made in collaboration with 50 elders! This is probably why the experience felt authentic. Kudos too to the art director - everything was well designed and cohesive. I really wish I could remember the name of the tour guide who explained the origin story of the area with the projected animation on the floor. He was very knowledgeable, well-spoken, and pleasant! He was actually on a break but still entertained us. Thank you!
Our family went to the park on Father's Day. We walked through the park and finished at the Indigenous Peoples Experience. I wish we would have gone here first. There is so much to see. We were in the building for about 2 hours but easily could have been in there for 4. We purchased a salve at the exit for joint pain due to arthritis. I wish there would have been a little more information about the items available for purchase. Apparently the vendors only stock their items and are not available at the venue to discuss the use of the products. I find it very interesting to learn about Indigenous Herbal Medicine. I would love to see more information on their practices. I would highly recommend visiting. I learned a great deal but I will also be coming back to learn more.
