Gourmet cake donuts in south Edmonton. Maple bacon, raspberry cheesecake, Oreo Nirvana, and wild seasonal specials. Vegan options available. Two locations in Ellerslie and Manning.
We came here last Monday (Aug. 3). Unfortunately, the lady who helped us wasn’t very friendly or approachable, and we felt rushed while trying to choose our donuts. The donuts were just okay. Some of them looked like they had filling, but they actually didn’t, which was a bit disappointing. The apple and blueberry fritters, however, were really good! We’d come back for the fritters if we’re ever craving one, but the regular donuts were just meh. In our opinion, Doughnut Party is still better. The service definitely needs improvement, as it had a big impact on our overall experience.
I will preemptive this by saying, I absolutely suck at writing, and Use Chapt gpt to clean up the content to make it more readable, but everything written was by me, and heartfelt. Thanks hope everyone enjoys it as much as we did. So the story: My wife fell in love with a very specific donut years ago, back when Tim Hortons was still really good. It was a cake donut covered in a cinnamon and powdered sugar coating. Apparently it was more common in Nova Scotia, but we could never find it out here. For the last two years, every time we visited a new town or spotted a Tim Hortons, we checked to see if they had it. No luck. We even had two different bakeries try to recreate it for us, but neither came close to what she remembered. That brings us to today. I found Mavericks through Google reviews and saw it was rated one of the top donut shops in Edmonton. On a whim, I called and asked if they could make a custom donut. The lady I spoke with immediately said yes. She told me they make cake donuts and would be happy to help. My wife and I drove out to meet her, and she was one of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet. Side note: every donut in the shop looked incredible. Being a blueberry guy, I grabbed one of their giant fresh blueberry fritters, and I have zero regrets. It was amazing. I explained the donut my wife had been searching for, and almost instantly I saw a lightbulb go off. Within a few minutes she disappeared into the back and came out with a bowl containing the perfect cinnamon and powdered sugar mixture. She smiled and said, “Just give me 24 hours notice whenever you want them, and I’ll remember you.” We left absolutely thrilled. Three days later, on Thursday afternoon, I called to place an order. Before I could even finish explaining who I was, she remembered me right away. I asked if she could make a half a dozen of the custom donuts for the next day, and she happily said yes. So today arrived. My wife was nervous. This was our third attempt with a donut shop and after countless searches all across Alberta, we didn't want to get our hopes up too much. We walked in, and the lady immediately lit up, ran to the back, and returned carrying a giant box. She handed it to my wife, and when we opened it, we couldn't believe it. Inside were the biggest, fluffiest, most beautiful cinnamon powdered cake donuts we'd ever seen. They looked exactly like the donuts my wife had been dreaming about all these years. We hadn't even tasted them yet, but we were already excited. She charged us her regular donut price, gave us a huge smile, and simply said she hoped they were everything we were looking for. We went home, made some fresh tea, sat down together, and each grabbed a donut. To say it was one of the best donuts I've ever had might be an understatement. My wife was absolutely over the moon. Not only did they match what she remembered, they somehow exceeded her expectations. I will probably be ordering from Mavericks for the rest of our lives. The entire experience was a joy from start to finish. She never bragged, never oversold anything, and never made promises she couldn't keep. She simply hoped the donuts were what we wanted—and they were perfect. Thank you again. I hope everyone gets to experience customer service and kindness like this. Ps: I highly recommend trying this one, it is not on the menu, but she said there boss is always looking for ideas, if you try it maybe we can make it a permenant resistant there, it is a really good donut, my kids loved it as well
I've never had a better donut. I come by here about once a month as a snack for our family but also to try any new flavour they might have on rotation. My fav is the cinnamon cake donut. My wife loves teh yeast donuts, so we leave pretty content. ONE recommendation I would like to make to people buying donuts from here. Warm the donut up in the mocrowave or air fryer for 30 seconds, and then add it to a small bowl of ice-cream. It is legitness. ;)
I have been craving donuts and was so excited to try these as I had seen them recommended on Facebook. I crushed 3 donuts in a day with bites out of the others. These were so light and fluffy with such a fun variety of flavors. Best eaten day of, but honestly hard to not eat them all instantly. The photos did not disappoint in how tasty these actually are! Highly recommend checking them out!
This is an awesome doughnut joint! The lady serving me was very friendly and welcoming! Doughnuts are really tasty but are on the heavier side…more like a cake texture, but so good! My favourites are the blueberry fritter and the cherry glaze. Will definitely be back!
