Bairro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy

I’ve been training at Bairro BJJ for about three months now, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to join. From day one, the instructors Professor Hoss, professor Pablo, Professor Jody Dorchester, Kashi Rahaman and team have been welcoming, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. As a beginner, walking into a combat sports gym can be intimidating, but the community here creates an environment that is both safe and challenging. The technique instruction is top-tier, with a strong focus on fundamentals, details, and proper form. You get a great workout every session, but more importantly, you actually learn and progress week after week. Whether you're looking to learn self-defense, get in great shape, or compete, Bairro BJJ is an incredible place to train. High energy, clean facility, and a fantastic group of people. Highly recommended!

I just want to thank Barrio BJJ for being such a great and welcoming school to me and my colleague, while we were visiting out of town. The team and students were wonderful to train with. Polite, skilled and overall great people. I enjoyed the class instruction and format. . Both my child and I take classes here, and we are 100% satisfied. From the clean and comfortable gym to the welcoming community, everything about this place feels great. All of the instructors are very professional, patient, and approachable. I really enjoy seeing how much fun the kids have during their workouts, while also appreciating how well-structured and effective the adult classes are. Even if you have never tried BJJ before, this is a great place for both adults and kids. You and your family will feel welcome, supported, and have the best time here.

The team at Bairro is the ideal mix of extremely skilled and also very welcoming. The parent and tott class is a great way to introduce BJJ to younger kids in a supportive, friendly, environment while slowly building in the foundational movements and skills. Vic has been exceptional with my kiddo, able to engage and encourage her even when it’s a really rough day. I see the whole staff taking a skilled interpersonal and teaching approach at different levels with older students. I heard the professor sitting with other young students and speaking about values, helping one another, etc. before starting class; that’s the kind of gym I’d like my kids to attend.

Attended Bairro central for the first time while in Edmonton for work. I had requested information for their free trial class during the holidays and hadn’t expected a quick response. Not only was it quicker than expected but it was easy enough to sign up. No issues locating the gym. It’s a clean and well put together space. The class was great. Beginners would be able to jump right in and start learning easily with the level of instruction. The break downs and the attention to the participants. More experienced individuals would be able to fit right in. From my experience anyone would be welcomed openly and would feel comfortable. The live rolls were great. Would recommend this club to anyone looking to start jiu jitsu. Looking for a new location or if their kids want to get involved.
